Latest dresses from Elie Saab Ready-to-Wear Spring 2011 Collection

I found myself engulfed tonight by dresses that define both elegance and femininity in an almost dream-like manner. There is something in the way Ellie Saab designs his dresses. He is able to visualize how his dress would create luxury and power in a woman yet mixes it with softness and comfort. I'm quite surprised, I would be so willingly wear everything from his Ready-to-Wear Spring 2011 Collection. This isn't my case for all designers. How many designers outfits are looking good on the runway but would never make me confident and comfortable to wear.

Ellie Saab is a Lebanese fashion designer who's self-made and self-trained. He started designing dresses and outfits at age 9 for his sisters using his mother's table cloths and curtains. At age 18, he put up his first atelier at Lebanese and all his evening gowns and wedding dresses were well-received. He must be a genius beyond his age.

He worked his way up to attain fame and expand his empire. But what made him a star was actually that dress that Halle Berry wore at the Oscars in 2002 when she received her first Oscar award. Since then, several A-list celebrities embraced his designs.

Rarely do I spend hours looking and studying designers' dresses because I bar myself from spending too much money for too expensive designs that are beyond my means. I have projects in mind that would make my future, therefore, I need to save my money. Meantime, just let me dream for all these alluring dresses.

All the rage summer cutouts

Did you girls ever consider stunning people through your back? Probably, even the most gorgeous dress you have in your closet creates a statement mostly through its front view. But what about its back? Are you tired of a mundane plain back? It's time to let your back speak for you. Cover your cleavage, you don't need it because what is hot right now is something that's all about your back story.

Sale, how I love Thee: Kate’s Necessary Evil

When asked “Do you love bargains?” I was like, “Is that a question?” But Kate’s Clothing is asking not only me actually, but all of you - girls who love sale!

Kate’s Clothing is screaming “Over 80 Sale Bargains!” here. Of course, I would never ignore such a call. Since its Necessary Evil’s shriek, you expect to see almost all products in the shade of black. There are some sprinkles of non-black color here and there, but only to complement the main black. Therefore, it is not a matter of color, it is of style.

blackdress

I happened to like this Gothic Black Ossa Bodice Red Ribbon Top. It’s being stretchable with ribbons and zip up, a kind that you’d say, “It rocks!” The red ribbons can easily be mistaken as the ones that adjust according to your width and preferred fitting, but they're not. There is black cord lacing at the back for adjustment purposes.

Paired by Necessary Evil Gothic Black Ravana Adjustable Skirt, this outfit looks great at the front view. But the back looks weird. I don’t know if it’s just me, but those raffles are just too much. I searched for an alternative skirt to pair with this Red Ribbon top. I wanted a not so loud type of long skirt. I then found one, oh how perfect! But just to be embarrassed at myself. The alternative turned out to be just the same skirt. I thought “Didn’t you see that word ADJUSTABLE?” That actually means you can remove the raffles if you wish so and just let the hem hang naturally down.

And then I saw this Chiffon Halter Dress. How lovely and how elegant! This dress is perfect for a wild night at the dance floor. Hmm, as if I dance. Actually I don’t. But this chiffon is just too elegant I can’t help it.

And then I found another black to steal, what lovely skirt! Oh, and there's one more! And then …

If I were to wear Maxi dress

maxidress

Girls, if there is one style that I am much challenged to wear, that is maxi dress. A long maxi is even more challenging than the short. I admire seeing them worn by tall elegant women who look like queens and goddesses if not innocent girls ready to run off the shore for a play, barefooted. But I have to face it - I am not tall. I can stand 5’5’’ through the aid of 3-inch-heels and perhaps that would suffice to pull on a maxi. But I am scared; I might look like a tent. And yet I cannot just keep admiring and not trying it on me. After all, I am on the quest for creativity. Thus I try to figure what are the important things to consider for a fabulous maxi dress outfit.

I don’t like dresses with big patterns such as large flowers because they just don’t fit a petite frame. Since I don’t have long legs, high heels are a must. It is easy to look short with this type of dress; therefore I have to avoid horizontal patterns no matter how enticing the design can be.

I fell in love with a Celia maxi dress because of its very J.Lo style with elegant combination of colors, but it's a tube. I am not abundant enough for a tube, therefore I have to stick with V-neck cuts to create those imaginary pair of richness and to elongate my figure – thank God maxi dresses usually come in that form. I prefer to go single colored for a sleek and smooth look unless otherwise the patterns are miniature and polished enough to earn my nod. But regardless of the pattern, I am rest assured that I won’t look like a tent as long as I go more structured through an empire waist. I don’t have a large stomach, thanks to my being underweight, but if I do have, I would go for an A-line cut to hide it and thereby create a flattering look. Lastly, I believe it is a rule that only oversized bags and chunky jewelries can maximize a maxi dress.

So tell me, girls. How would you like your maxi dress?

Inspiring Dresses from Oscars 2010

Another Oscars, another red carpet, the 82nd Annual Academy Awards held at Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 7.

The parade of beauties, dresses and tuxedos is always overwhelming. It is a moment when we take time to carefully identify what celebrities are wearing.

Who made it right? In my eyes, there were four.

cameronjlo

Cameron Diaz
Nothing beats the glamour of this lady. I can still remember her coming to a red carpet with her mini-gown proving that she could defy the stereotype long gowns and she was a success. But it is evident, be it long or mini gowns, she is a queen.

Jennifer Lopez
There is a reason why J.Lo is a favorite celebrity of mine. Because she is undoubtedly stylish! Who would say she made wrong with this white gorgeous dress? A stunner!

kristen

Kristen Stewart
Her dress is a darling; but I would need her to be more elegant in projecting. I reckon it must be about the pose? I don't know, there's just something awkward. But I love the dress.

Elizabeth Banks
If there's anything extra-ordinary with Elizabeth? It's her little extra skill in carrying this dress. She's entirely stunning.

Bonus: She's not only the queen of the red carpet, she also conquered the after-party.
