A year of blogging dangerously

Not wanting to be outdone by HRH, That's Not My Age has gone one better: three birthdays. So, July 14 2008 is the anniversary of my first style-over-forty post (featuring Mary Portas, of course), August 23 2009, the anniversary of my first trip out as an amateur style spotter with photographer, Fashionistable and August 25 2009 is the date of one's second blog post, or my official Blog Day, when things really got serious. So, a whole year has passed since two forty-something females decided that chasing strangers down the street with a camera was a good idea, and to celebrate there was coffee and cake and a couple of photos:

Aerobics teacher, Laura Avanti (above) enjoys mixing old and new, high street and designer. Anita's easy-going style is reflected in her choice of handbags. A ChloƩ leather number on one arm and a shoulder bag made out of an old Armani skirt on the other.

For a cool summer look, Anita Sobti teams natural fabrics - a silk over-shirt and linen trousers - with some top notch accessories, and always follows her father's advice: whatever your budget, whatever you wear, do it with confidence.

Happy Birthday to me! Another 99 years and I'll get a telegram.

Street Style: turn-ups

Sisters, Marcia Bennett-Male, 45, and Grace Bennett, 50, look lovely in rolled up trousers and florals. Marcia, a stonemason, spends her working life dressed down but likes to 'girly up' when she's out with big sis'. Read more about Grace, on her bike blog, Cycling in Heels.

Sculptor, Ray Okunubi, 47, describes his style as casual vintage. Paying a nod to the underwear as outerwear trend, he teams an old 1930s jersey undergarment with selvedge jeans, a silk scarf and Kangol hat.

Street Style: wrap up warm

Lisa Lyons, 41, loves the layered look, ooh bit of a tongue-twister eh? Shorts, thermal tights and over-knee boots - now there's an idea!

Carole Austin, 39, looks fabulous in her TK Maxx coat, bottle green leather bag and Chanel glasses.

Cutting a dash in his grandma's coat, don't you think Raffaele Azzi, 45, looks like an Italian John Galliano?

Fredrik Hulting, 37, may look like an English toff in his Aquascutum coat, but don't be fooled, he's actually from Stockholm.

Street Style: 2009

Apologies to those readers suffering from end-of-year-list-overload... but there's still enough time to squeeze one more in before we say goodbye to 2009, That's Not My Age's top five fabulous over-forties:

Straight in at number one: Julie Christie. Because she's gorgeous and talented - and I still can't believe we met her!

For his fabulous facial hair and super-chic Miu Miu glasses, Daniel Azzaro, 66.

William Gilchrist, 44, be-suited on a bicycle and oh-so dashing.

For excellent, yet subtle, use of colour and a natty scarf it's a tie between, Joan Rolls, 56 (above) and Jette Egelund, 59 (below).

In simple monochrome basics, Doushka Krish, 43, proves less is more.

OK, OK, I know I said five but I just can't resist pointing out (again!) that we snapped The Sartorialist, Mr Scott Schulman at London Fashion Week. Woo hoo!

Street Style

One of my friends, who's a lot more tech-y than I am, introduced me to Twitter over a year ago. So far I've tweeted three times. My first tweet was a moan about feeling jet-lagged after a trip to New York and the others were sent recently to spread the word about my street style pics for That's Not My Age. OK, so I know I'm not The Sartorialist, blimey, I don't even take the photos (I just find the people and ask the questions). Luckily I have a couple of photographer friends who cover that side of things and together I think we find some pretty-damn-fabulous-over-forties! So here are a few more:

'I'm not wearing any make-up! You want it au naturel, you got it,' says Joan Rolls, a very young-looking 56, with her gorgeous Dutch bike and glamorous Kirsten Heckter tweed coat. The teal Mongolian lambswool scarf makes a nice contrast don't you think?

Angela McLennan, 68, looks fabulous in her Agnes b beret, wool swing coat and sassy tartan skirt. And don't think I haven't noticed the nicely scuffed-up leather Chloe bag!

Like a female Indiana Jones, Ainslee has been on some amazing around the world adventures. She bought this hat in Buenos Aires and the beautiful, wool scarf from 'a weaver in Hammersmith'

PS If anyone knows how to change the Twitter format (the gadget looks a bit ugly and I've noticed other bloggers don't have it on show) - please advise!

Oh blimey, not another Julie Christie moment... Mr That's Not My Age has just told me that Charlie Gillett, 67, is a very famous world music DJ and author. Oops didn't realise, sorry Charlie!

And this is Charlie's lovely wife Buffy, 65, who has global style. Her bag is from Guatemala, her shoes are French and I like the way she's paired peep toes with opaque tights.

Karin Harshof Hjelde, 68, opts for understated style in a swingy Marrimekko rainmac and jeans. And don't you just love Anish Kapoor's Christmas baubles?
(PS If anyone knows Karin, please could you tell her she's online? I stupidly forgot to take her email address.)

Mel de Lasti, 65, puts a suave spin on denim in his cornflower blue shirt and natural jacket. The Mulberry bag is from a flea market just outside Paris - it cost three euros! Respect.

Street Style

Jarvis Cocker
isn't the only dad with a stylish son to show off. Set designer, Rick van der Heul, 50, and son, Max nearly 15, show us that the best way to wear a lean single-breasted jacket is with a pair of easy denim jeans.

Jane Young, 48, in subtle shades of grey, knows how to do chic and understated. We love her fabulous DVF cardi, vintage Liberty scarf and Gucci loafers. Her jewellery is from the hippy market in Ibiza.

Eelke Jan Bles, 43, has a certain town meets country vibe. The tweed jacket is from Portobello market, the flat cap fron New York. And have you noticed he's matched his vintage Ralph Lauren shirt to his tan leather Trickers? Attention to detail - that's what we like.

Street Style

That's Not My Age and photographer, Dvora have been out and about looking for stylish people over forty - and there are plenty out there! Check out our favourites from Columbia Road flower market, London, 28th August 2009.

Susan Greenleaf, 39 (nearly there Susan!) was at the market with her ever-so-stylish twins Quinn and Hansen. She's wearing an old APC top and a neat little chapeau. We like her laid-back style.

Leon Herbert, 54, says, 'I'm wearing white because it makes me feel angelic!" His jacket only cost a fiver from an old army & navy store.

Irene Duffy, 88, runs a market stall and loves wearing fitted shirts and trousers - but top marks to this stylish lady who always finishes off the look with a sassy scarf.

Krt (and no, that's not a typo) Williams, over 40, works for fabulous fashion company, Junky Styling. We love Krt's nonchalantly piled on necklaces and recycled cuff.

Young Soo Park - can you believe it, is 60 years old? Yes six-o, amazing eh? He's a fashion designer from south Korea and is head-to-toe 10 Corso Como, which has just opened a store in Seoul.
